Warfare

So diplomacy has failed, or you just want some fun. Beat your plowshares into swords, then grab some fenceposts and we'll teach you how to war. Or, if you're wanting tips on how to defend, we've got that too.

Prerequisites

  1. Five people in both warring nations have to be online.
  2. In order for a town to be attacked, a town member must be online during the war. Towns with no online players cannot be attacked.
  3. Your nation must set the opposing nation to enemies, you can see this by doing /nation. Please note that only one nation needs to do this to attack another nation.

Attacking

In order to attack a town, you must place an oak fence (only oak) inside of a town’s border chunks (outer most chunks). This will create a flag lasting for 60 seconds with a very noticeable indicator directly above it at the build limit. Destruction of the flag will cancel the claim, but will not prevent you from being able to place another fencepost to start it again.

In the 60 seconds timeframe, the flag will change color nine times. It will start as Lime, then move through Green, Blue, Cyan, Light Blue, Silver, White, Pink, Orange, then Red - following this, the wool will disappear and the chunk is yours.

Placing a fencepost will cost 1000 Yuans, so make sure you have at least that much. If you win the claim, you'll automatically take 500 Yuans out of the opposing town's bank (unless they don't have that amount). The opposite is also true if you lose the claim - the player destroying your flag will take 250 Yuans from the encounter.

Beware, as per Rule 3.5, blocking the flag to prevent a defender from breaking it is not allowed. This includes adding and removing blocks alongside bending moves such as Earth Wall.

Defending

Bearing in mind the process for claiming a chunk as an attacker, the defender must simply break the flag placed down within a 60 second timeframe. Even though the flag is made of wool, be aware that shears will not break the block - you need to break it with your hands to cancel the claim.

If your town's chunk is captured, it becomes the attacking town’s chunk. They can do whatever they want with it, and it will remain in their possession, even after the war. You will have to resort to diplomacy to get the chunk back - or just place a fencepost and take it back during the war if possible.

If you wish to prevent attackers from taking chunks, you may want to look into employing a defensive strategy to make it as difficult as possible. This might include but would certainly not be limited to:

  • Building your walls directly on your town's chunk borders
  • Employing a moat in combination with the walls, either filling the rest of the wall chunk or immediately in front of it
  • Utilising ice traps to contain Earthbenders (ice top, prismarine/obsidian walls and floor) - Waterbenders only
  • Keeping your walls high to utilise fall damage as a defense tactic (favors Airbenders, but can technically be done by all elements)

This is not an exhaustive list, so feel free to take inspiration and innovate. Just be aware that your opponents can read this, same as you. Above all else, remember that overwhelming force might very well trump any strategy you've put in place - so make sure you have people ready to defend your town!
